Who, what, and why (purpose and audience) are clear. | Based on the front page of the website, I cannot find information about the purpose and the intended audience of this site. | 1 |
Site appeals and makes sense to teachers and/or students. | The site posts information related to educational technology with pictures and YouTube videos to support the contents of some posts. However, I feel distracted by the non-educational technology ads that appear at the bottom of the site. | 2 |
The design shows users what to do next. | At the end of every post, I can read an instruction, you might enjoy reading, followed by three posts. I sense that the author directs me to read them and explore the site further. | 5 |
Information is quick to find and clear. What makes it so? | I can quickly find the information on the site as a title of a post is printed in bold; also, the options in the home menu (e.g., work with me, about, practical ed tech) are put in a contrast of black and white color. Moreover, in a post, I can see some phrases printed in blue, which I can click easily, and it directs me to other related information. | 5 |
Type is easy to read and follows design principles. | I can sense an alignment issue. When reviewing the site on October 21, 2019, I looked at a post entitled Kami, Annotate PDFs in Google Drive. I see that the picture of Kami does not align well with the text on its right side. Also, the sentence, here’s a couple of updated video about Kami works, right below the picture does not align well with the text above it. The picture of Kami even blocked some text. The author repeatedly uses a bigger font size for the title and makes it bold. Then, he uses the same font in every posting. | 1 |
Color is used correctly. | I like how the author bolds the title of every posting and uses blue color to indicate a link that I can click. | 5 |
Grid alignment is clear and information follows an F pattern. | When reviewing the site on October 21, 2019, I looked at a post entitled A Couple of Fun and Simple Map Games for Students of All Ages. I saw that the white-grey map on the left side blocked some parts of the text on its right side. Also, I would say that the picture (biggest cites-my cites) below the text should be left-aligned to make a better alignment in the site. Further, I can sense the F pattern as I can read articles on the left side, but have information (e.g., book creator, robotcompass, and blog archives) on the right side. | 5 |
Images, videos, and graphics support the ideas/text | There are pictures to illustrate the content of articles (e.g., see a post entitled Fall Back! – Lessons on the End of Daylight Saving Time). The author also puts some (YouTube or Ted-Ed) videos to support the information he wrote. | 5 |
Navigation is simple. Why is it simple? | Some recent posts are displayed on the left side without making some clicks. I can scroll down the site to read the articles. | 5 |
Overall evaluation: The author needs to fix the alignment issues in his site. |
